Im Jahr 1925 verlässt Olga Benario im Alter von 17 Jahren ihr Münchner Elternhaus, um ihren kommunistischen Idealen folgen zu können. In Moskau erhält sie eine militärische Ausbildung und soll den brasilianischen Hauptmann Luis Carlos Prestes, der den Sturz des Diktators Vargas vorbereitet, als Ehefrau getarnt nach Brasilien begleiten. Auf der Reise entwickelt sich zwischen den Beiden eine Liebe, die nach dem Scheitern des Umsturzes im Gefängnis endet. In den letzten Jahren hat sich die Situation von Arbeitsmigrant_innen und Flüchtlingen in Israel sehr verschlechtert. Staatliche Gewalt, rassistische Kontrollen, Abschiebungen von ganzen Familien und brutale Misshandlungen in Gefangenschaft sind Alltag für zehntausende Migrant_innen, auch in Israel.

Die staatliche Repression nimmt immer mehr zu: eine neulich gegründete “Polizeieinheit für Fremdarbeiter” macht Jagd auf “Fremdarbeiter” und “Eindringlinge”. Ägyptische und israelische Soldaten schießen auf Flüchtlinge, die durch die Sinai-Wüste kommen. Staatliche Propaganda-Kampagnen warnen Israelis vor der Einstellung “illegaler Fremdarbeiter”.

Israelische Aktivist_innen unterstützen die Migrant_innen durch die Verhinderung und Störung der Jagdaktionen der Polizei. Um die breite Solidarität mit den Migrant_innen zu illegalisieren, plant jetzt die israelische Regierung ein neues Gesetz, wonach jede Kontaktaufnahme und Hilfebereitschaft gegenüber "illegalen" Migrant_innen mit einigen Jahren Knast bestraft werden könnte.

Jetzt brauchen die Antira-Aktivist_innen in Israel unsere Hilfe, um weiter diese Unterstützung leisten zu können. Um legalen Risiken für sie zu vermeiden, können wir in Deutschland (ganz legal) Teile ihrer Arbeit übernehmen und verhindern, dass sie kriminalisiert werden.

Solidarity in practice

In the last years, the situation of migrants and refugees in Israel had become even worst. State violence, racist control, deportation of entire families and brutal mistreatment in prison are everyday life for tens of thousands migrants, also in Israel.

The state-repression is also increasing: a newly founded "Police Unit for foreign workers" is hunting down "foreign workers" and "Intruders". Egyptian and Israeli soldiers shoot at Refugees who come through the Sinai Desert. State Propaganda campaigns warn Israelis of employing "illegal Foreign workers".

Israeli activists support the migrants through the prevention and disruption of police activity. In order to criminalize the wide solidarity with the migrants, the Israeli government is planning a new law that will criminalize every contact and help willingness to "illegals" and could lead to a few years of prison-time.

The anti-racist activists in Israel, need our help for being able to continue their work. In order to avoid the legal risks, we in Germany, could take some of their tasks and thus prevent them from being criminalized.

Januar werden drei von ihnen angeschossen. Die Wanderarbeiter/innen demonstrieren und lassen ihre Wut an Autos aus, es kommt zu Zusammenstößen mit den Bewohner/innen Rosarnos. Nach zwei Tagen Pogrom werden die Immigrant/innen von der Polizei evakuiert, ohne Lohn, ohne Bleibe, ohne Papiere.

In Italien wird die rassistische Debatte über kriminelle Immigrat/innen weiter angeheizt. Doch was ist wirklich los in Italien? Bahnt sich eine neue militante Migrantenbewegung an? Welche Bedeutung hatte der Migrantenstreik am 1. März?

Giving voice to the Ethiopian refugees living in Rome, the film provides a direct insight into the brutal ways in which Libya, aided also by Italian and European funds, is operating to control the immigration movements of people from Africa. Dag used to study Law in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. Prompted by the strong political repression he had to face in Ethiopia, he decides to leave the country. In the winter of 2005 he embarks on a tough land journey, crossing the desert between Sudan and Libya. On his arrival in Libya, he is soon caught in a web of violence and criminal activities run by the racket group controlling the routes through the Mediterranean Sea. He then goes from bad to worse, ending up in the hands of the Libyan police, responsible for a series of arrests and mass deportations. Dag eventually manages to cross the sea and reaches the Italian coastline. He then arrives in Rome, where he starts attending an informal Italian school run by Asinitas Onlus, a first access point for African immigrants coordinated by Marco Carsetti and other volunteers. Here he attends an Italian language course and is given the opportunity to learn basic film-making techniques. This experience inspires him to collect the testimonies of his fellow countrymen who shared the same traumatic experiences, and breaks the silence on the fate awaiting African migrants.
